Eclipse Camp - Bilma, Niger
Our overland services have total autonomy for our combination of small groups, which all meet together on eclipse day in Bilma. We are equipped with heavy supply means (6x6 all terrain trucks, tankers, refrigerated trucks) and with electrical power generators.
On the left you can see one of the famous "6x6", also called "10 wheels" : their ten wheel drive enable them to go through even when 4WD have to stop, such insuring secure supply.
On the right, the 13 cubic meter refrigerated 4WD that was used to deliver 2,000 liters of cold drinkable water to les Ecoles du Désert.
Our operation will operate with thirty-five 4WD vehicles, one tanker, a refrigerated truck, 2 supply trucks, 80 camels, and two teams working on shift when needed.
Our Exclusive Eclipse camp will have:
- For sleeping: tented accommodations with comfortable matresses
Shower and WC facilities
Electric power supply equipment
Refrigeration truck with 10cubic meters of 200 liters cold drinking water
Services throughout provide:
- Local, English speaking guides.
- Cooks prepare food, which is healthy and abundant.
- We make sure that there is drinkable water, plus water from wells for washing.
- A 'dining room' is created for every meal.
- Cooks handle all supply and logistical details.
- Two campfires are lighted each night, one for cooking, one for gathering and warmth on cool nights.
- To sleep, comfortable matresses and tents are provided for everybody.
- Traveling distance is about 200km per day.
- Vehicles, each with 3 or 4 guests operate as a team, stopping whenever there is an attraction.
- Equipment used, Toyota Landcruisers, able to go through the rocky tracks of the Air and sandy dunes of Tenere.
Notices:
- This is an off-road camping expedition throughout.
- Guests will be provided sleeping bags and full, standing height tents and will sleep on a comfortable mattresses.
- A packing list of supplies will be provided for items such as canteens, chap-stick, toiletries, day-pack, etc.
- Temperatures range from 30-35.25c daytime highs and 15-25.25c lows at night.
Entry Services:
- Guests may apply for their own Visas at the Niger embassy in Washington DC.
- Astronomical Tours shall provide a letter certifying all travel details for Visa applications
- Vaccinations required: Yellow Fever, Cholera is recommended if traveling from other African countries with outbreaks.
